Hello,

I require help with this frustrating issue, frustrating enough to be willing to pay for some help.
As some of you may know, in Left 4 Dead 2 you are simply unable to reliably detect what language a Player is playing in.

- cvar "cl_language" will always return the language the player has set their Steam to, meaning the game can be in a different language. (Thus, making GetClientLanguage useless as well)
- cvar "english" is of no use either.



I'm hoping this will be possible with the use of an extension.
I'll pay $200 to whoever can reliably detect this.

How about a possibility to ensure Soundscripts are playing sounds from a specific folder?
As I currently understand it, soundscripts will play the files relative to the rootdir -> sounds folder, which changes as soon as the game detects a different language.

I realize this is all done client-sided, which is why my hope to detect or even set this is rather low.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish by detecting the player's language?

To prevent clients from modifying soundfiles in other languages.
Considering whitelist + sv_consistency can't do this (in L4D2) without blocking out legit players that simply don't play in that language.

Being able to pick up a player's language reliably would allow me to either detect if that specific client is actually using unmodified soundfiles from their select language or to either block non-English clients entirely.

...player maybe want play game in english, even he/she is non-english ?

You could check player country by IP address, then do what you like.
