I guess this would be true. personally I never noticed a difference in the maps. I can use l4d_hospital04_interior with that variable set to 0, and it runs fine.

I have heard that they are not a requirement from other post that you personally have done... but every plugin that I have posted or seen approved has a public cvar on it, or requested to have it.

I am not currently able to approve it... but I would if I was able.

It's good practice to have one, but it's not needed. The only real reasons to have one is if you're interested in tracking how many people use it or to easily identify what version you're running on your server.

Is there any reason why it doesn't say there are servers running this, when both mine are and have the sm_hzombies_version variable? when I edit the first post I see it as the CVAR..

I didn't approve it, SAMURAI16 did. It's probably not showing any servers because it hasn't queried any servers for your cvar yet. Give it some time and it will.
