EDIT 2: gave in and switched to steam option A, works fine, would like to get it moved to it's own separate location but it's not too important. Moving the files was troublesome due to folder read/write permissions so my error was most likely caused by that or the lack of updated files.

EDIT: seems this is only happening when I try to run it with "+map mvm_mannworks" (also tried other mvm maps) not sure if I'm doing that wrong... runs fine with just setting say the max players but without a map it doesn't heartbeat and I can't connect

Thank you for setting all this up I'm having a couple issues running a dedicated MvM server. I read that the Particles: Missing 'particles/error.pcf' error and the following particle errors are normal so I'll skip over that.
I got 2 warnings at the start
Code:
WARNING: Failed to locate steam binary.
WARNING: Could not locate steam binary:, ignoring.
even though I added all the steam files into the bin (running the standalone). then I get this chunk of errors (again the steam file was added to the bin (I might just have to try to re-add it, does having steam open interfere with this?)) and I do have a server.cfg file don't know why it didn't load that as well.

Code:

Hello!

I just set up working TF2 MvM server and almost everything works fine so far. The only problem I have is that the server is not connecting to TF2 item servers.

There is an in-game message which says "Loadout not available could not connect to item server" and all iteams and weapons are the stock ones.
There are no messages in server console about the item server. I looked up some TF2 server logs in internet and saw these lines:
Code:
...
Public IP is xx.xxx.xx.xxx.
VAC secure mode is activated.
Current item schema is up-to-date with version: XXXXXXXX
My server doesn't output this last line, outputs ends with the line about VAC.

I guess that the connection hasn't been made, because there are no errors either. Maybe I have to open additional ports? Server shows up in Steam server list, everything else is working just fine.

Can anyone confirm that items are working on their server?

Thank You anyway for this tool!

Ya same problem here, can't connect to item server, although my config file is not loading (loads then says it can't find it or the map specific one) so it may be a problem with the set-up for me

I've released an update that includes a couple of fixes and adds support for CS:GO. See the downloads in the first post.

I've managed to track down and fix the problem (with TF2 servers in particular) where it wasn't connecting to the item server and checking for an up to date schema. The message about this will now be displayed as it should be. Thank you, mahootnick and Dak393, for noticing this problem.

The program will now also attempt to locate steam libraries automatically when Steam is not running but still installed. This means that you may not have to find and copy steamclient.dylib, libsteam.dylib, etc. if you have Steam installed on the system. Hopefully this will make running some servers a bit easier. Copying these libraries will still be necessary if Steam is not installed at all, of course.

Thanks heaps for this. Managed to run a dedicated server for 7v7, and I am an idiot.

Good stuff.

Hi all, great work here, I was very excited to find this thread.
I am getting "Failed to find symbols for dedicated.dylib", I tried both method A, and B, on garrysmod.

OSX 10.8.2
64bit

Any information on how to fix this would be great, I am somewhat savvy if you want to point me to an area that might be in conflict. Thanks

It shouldn't be caring about symbols unless it's crashing, can you paste more output?

This likely no longer supports garrysmod, (at least temporarily) since the release of GMod 13.
