Hey there!

I'm currently in charge of a Linux based TF2 Freak Fortress server.
On a daily basis, whenever a few players enter the server it starts lagging a lot.
And by a lot I mean the game gets pretty unplayable.

It's minor freezes that occur too often (2-3 every 5 seconds). The game feels 'slow'.
Not as in slow motion but more like each action you do takes time to register on the server. More time than usual.

I've checked for client console errors and I haven't seen something major there.
The console as well does not output anything I may find related to the problem.
But here's the catch: Pings are fine. I used the "status" command and all of the connected
players had a ping BELOW of 90ms.

I heard about vproofing but I couldn't find enough material online to test it out myself and even if I had the result in a text file, I wouldn't know much how to read them.

Is there any way I can check my server performance (using a tool like vproof) to find the cause of the lags?

What're the hardware specs and is it dedicated or shared?

Hey, thanks for replying.

I'm not sure about the hardware but I believe the server is shared since our community has other servers and other games' servers.

Regardless of the hardware, I'm trying to do the max to optimize the software (plugins/settings) just to mark this option out. The hardware should be sufficient to hold a 32 slot server (since it was done before).

My first guess would be other applications / neighbors on your system are spiking the CPU and it's causing the server to drop frames. I don't think Freak Fortress out of the box is going to ship with anything that would cause what you're describing.

You could try removing Sourcemod and seeing if the issues persist or not.
