Hi,

I'm running a dedicated HL2DM server, it's all up an running fine but I want to add some custom maps.

Adding the maps to the server is pretty simple, getting them to download client side is not so simple. I tried hosting them on my server, but it takes forever to download and lags the game. I tried hosting them on dropbox but it just didn't seem to work (map not available disconnected) Reading a recent post it seems dropbox no longer works for this purpose?

I gather you need to host the .bsp map files on the web somewhere and put the web address in the servers .cfg file

Any suggestions on the best way to do this ?

I'm thinking of using google drive, it gives you some free storage and you can create a public shared folder. I guess thats all I need? and then I just put the .bsp files there and a path to them in server.cfg or is there more to it than that ?

Ok Google drive was a bust, no better than dropbox. I got some amazon AWS webspace instead, created a maps folder, uploaded the .bsps, made it publicly available.... still no good. Why is this not working??

Is it because the server needs to see a navigable path (like if the files were on an ftp server) ? or is there something else I'm missing?

I'm looking at this from a tf2 perspective, but our sv_downloadurls need to be from the base mod folder.

So instead of this:

We have this:

A little bit more detail, you might need to make a hl2dm folder and put maps in there:

Thanks, I did try https://s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/thewookie and it didn't work. I just tried putting the maps folder within a hl2mp folder and still no joy.

Although you can actually download the file, it's seemingly not possible to navigate the folder, and I'm wondering if this is where it's falling down.

So how do you get around this then ? I've registered on lots of different hosting sites and none of them will do what I need them too. Any recommendations ?

Get a VPS and install Apache2 on it.

Thanks Gabe. I do own my own server hardware (couple of R700's) which are running the SRCDS server and would be capable of running a web server too, but presumably still better to use a VPS for fast download and minimising server lag.
