The civilian population does outnumber the armies, but...

The army is controlled by the government.

The government has regulation over stuff like oil (gasoline), the entire economy, banks, large portions of food supplies.

Not to mention all their high powered weaponry.

We are not protected by guns any more like they were back when the constitution was created.

We are protected by the fact that if our military starts doing stuff to us that they shouldn't, we assume that our government will put an end to it, and if that doesn't work, then the U.N. will intervene.

Hello sirs or madams. I seem to have a gun control problem. My massive muscular arms have a hard time not killing people. Thanks, Matt.

The U.N. has failed so far... Look at USA and what it's doing.

The U.N can't even stop an African Militia in Darfur. It has to speculate on what to do next. Yea, the U.N. is really going to stop a full blown military.

Maybe if the U.N. had a stronger military force, it might be able to do something... But unfortunately, the countries that are backing it up don't have the world's interest in mind, merely their own.

The UN has no interest in that.

I'm sure if the US military started going ballistic, considering it could probably wipe off a large portion of the globe with a few missiles, a few countries would step in.

Notice how you said if they start going ballistic on the world or regions of it. As long as the problem is local, I doubt other countries will step in, or have the power to.

That's something that nobody will know unless it happens.

I still stand by the fact that whether or not your household has a pistol means nothing when a government has it out to kill you.

I'll be damned if go down without a fight :p. If the government comes at you as their specific target, you're screwed. However, I'm usually referring to a group.
