What is this?
This extension disables network compression to line up with what Valve is currently trying with Team Fortress 2.

Why do I need this?
Valve introduced a regression into the engine when they updated the content distribution system to Steam|. They started moving games a while back (CS: S a month ago), HL2: DM before that, and DOD: S before that. When our CS: S servers were moved, we noticed fast client load times. However, there was some strange server skipping going on. We thought it was normal (and part of the server flooding that was introduced), until it continued every minute of every hour of every day. When TF was moved, they noticed it as well, which showed it was a much bigger problem (on every game...). They're only trying things now, so this extension will hopefully keep up with their current attempts. They seem to only be concerned with testing/updating TF, so hopefully the attempts remain crude/simple.

My servers are perfect. Who needs this?!

Currently this extension supports Attempt #2. If you're on Windows and want to help, email Fletcher for a vtrace cdkey. This extension only supports Linux at the moment (but can be easily compiled for Win/Mac).


Grab the stand-alone binary if you're not running SourceMod-Central (1.6).

Interesting! So did you find that this temporary fix got rid of the spikes?

I'll give it a try on Windows later today.

There's still vphysics and round start spikes, but nothing as bad as it was before. I'll throw some new vtrace logs up on the mailing list.

Just update to the pre-release build and use the Valve-provided convars, this is for games that don't have that available.

Anything < 1.6, and you compiled against central.
