Yes, mussolini but anyway I can give my opinion here.

I think we should just forget about it and move on.

@Quim: You could start your own website and post whatever you want .
I strongly disagree.

1. The community is not protected. Again, perhaps the rate of steamid spoofing would increase faster if the plugin was available, but that's not really important. Steamids are not reliable like we thought, regardless of whether or not the plugin is available here.

2. I think that's exactly the opposite of what we should do. Since Joaquim was nice enough to tell us about the problem, let's use this information to improve the things that we know are broken and unreliable.

3. Joaquim made a valuable contribution to the community. Censorship is not the answer.

Also, I'm laughing right now because Joaquim called you mussolini.

Well, getting back on topic (kind of) to stupok's option #2, what do you guys propose? I was considering IP's at first, but that seems to change far too much depending on the user. Is it possible to get hardware ID's? ( I think this was actually asked in Orpheu's thread once, then shot down. But it's worth a shot. )

Of the client? If you have a client side program, yes. If not, no.

I don't see how I deserve to be called Mussolini. I didn't delete anything. If the owner feels they want to delete it they have the right to do so. And just because I'm ok with protecting the community doesn't make me deserve it either.

Even in the client side, the HID has to be passed to the server via network connection. The server can be hooked, so the HID can be changed too.

Here:

Nah, I kid Yami. Seriously now:
What's the point of knowing the HID only at client side?!?!?! If you want to use it as an ID, a replacement for SteamID, then it HAS to be transmitted to the server.
