Wow I am having so many problems with installing this, somebody please help me.

Currently I am stuck on the first step that says "Install MetaMod: Source"
I have downloaded it and followed the instructions page found at:

I'm stuck on this step:

9. You're done! To test whether it worked, restart your game server and type "meta" in the console. You should get a menu.

It does nothing. I start counter-strike source and type meta in the console and it tells me unknown command...

Also, if I go back to the file that has to be edited on step 8, the line I added has been erased. It is erased every time I start source...

Basically I followed the instructions and it did absolutely nothing. Please please please somebody help me.

If you are running a windose server. Edit the file and mark it 'read only'
This should stop the server from writing over it

Nope, it just took off the read-only and overwrote the file again. Still no "meta" in the console.

I had the same problem. There was very little about it out there but this is how you can get around it:

1. Open up the GameInfo.txt (don't add the line in yet)
2. Start Steam
3. Add the line to GameInfo.txt and save and close
4. Create a copy of the counter strike shortcut
5. Right click and goto properties and change the following:

I suppose you could make a brand new shortcut but I wanted to keep that nifty little shooter guy for an icon. It gives it little more zest over windows default but hey whatever floats your boat.

note I'm assuming you installed it to the default directory

Target:
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\user_name\counter-strike source\hl2.exe" -game cstrike -console

Start in:
"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\user_name\counter-strike source\"

6. That shortcut will open css and the meta command should now work

That shortcut will only work when Steam is running. I did read somewhere another way of doing it but I'm can't remember where I found it. I'll post again when I find the site to give that person credit and for another way to get it to work.

...shouldn't this be in the installation instructions? It seems that many people have had this problem.

Yeah I said the same thing. After about an hour of searching last night I just figured that I was one a few people that had the problem. All I kept finding was people yelling "RTFM" In the back of my mind I was thinking to myself... this sucks I RTFM and there isn't anything in there... Oh well back to the manual... =P
