and it looks like the SM updater is pushing the wrong "game.dod.txt"

i use the one from the latest DEV (1.5 3823) and that one works.
but every server start SM overwrites it with a wrong one.

This is intended, we're still updating.

I do, and I'm sure an official game data update with the same content will be released in a matter of hours, at most.

A question to the SourceMod team: how long does it take for the automatic updater to catch up?

Updating gamedata on the updater had to wait until all the builds built.

Our Windows builder can take up to an hour due to various technical reasons, and there were about 5 builds to do on just SM at the time of update (the updated gamedata for central, 1.5, 1.4, as well as some other dev activity that was going on at the time). They also have to be serial else they'll go slow enough to time out and "fail". Two MM:S builds also had to be triggered.

Gamedata on the updater could have been done one branch at a time, but I have a very nasty habit of forgotting one or more when doing it that way so I waited and did all at once.

The updater should have correct gamedata for SM 1.4, SDKHooks standalone, SM 1.5 dev including SDKHooks if a 1.5 build later enough to have it included, and SM 1.6 dev) as of 17:43 GMT -4 (EDT) yesterday (2013-03-29).

Is there a way to pre-release the required SM/MM builds prior to TF2's port over to Steampipe?

We don't make any extra effort to support game betas when we already support a non-beta version of the game. It's a hassle and the infrastructure doesn't easily allow for it (especially now that in this case, the gamedir is the same 'tf' instead of a separate 'tf_beta').

The newest MM:S builds will already work fine for those (and not work for the currently released TF2, HL2DM, and CS:S; those will have to stay on latest MM:S release). This is because they still share the same engine in our binaries... for now.

As for gamedata, best we can do one our end is disable the auto-updater from the time that the update is out until the time that it can have the correct gamedata. There could be the same delay in getting it on there again and for the same reason without hand-editing its files. If we push to all repos at once (so that the updater can have it all at once), snapshot builds time out.
