Is there a trial mode for Tf2 weapons, cosmetics, taunts, etc.?

There is no 'mode' that allows you to try weapons, cosmetics, or taunts. However, there are various plugins that you can install on your server that allow you to try weapons, cosmetics, and taunts.

Taunt mode crashes. I guess that's why tf2.tauntem.txt. But I couldn't find this file on the page.

In the original post FlaminSarge stated that you get the gamedata file from his github page. I've attached a copy of it for you here.

If you use the Taunt 'em plugin I suggest you also use the plugin '[TF2] Taunt Menu' by FlaminSarge, Nighty, xCoderx, and Crow. It allows players players to type !taunt which brings up a menu of available taunts. You'll have to update the source code if any new taunts are released. I've attached the plugin to this thread.

You can also add unusual effects to any taunt, including weapon taunts with the '[TF2] Unusual Taunts' plugin written by the very talented StrikeR14. It works very well. Here's a link: https://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=2722944
