I just found this on the web, and I think I have figured it out, but I want to know what you guys think.

I need to buy a shirt which costs 97 dollars. I burrow 50 dollars from my mom, 50 dollars from my dad.
I pay with 100 dollars and I get 3 back.
I then give my mom 1 dollar back, and my dad one dollar back. Now I owe 49+49=98 dollars, and I have one dollar left. Where is the last dollar?

i dont understand how this is a question. if you gave your dad 2 bucks instead of keeping it, and gave your mom 1 dollar, youd owe 97 dollars == the price of the shirt. what am i missing?

I wasn't understanding how this was a question until I read xpaw link. This is not about adding 1 to 98 making 99 and ask: where the missing one? Is about removing 1 from 98 making 97 and say: this is the price of the shirt. The problem is that the question is nonsense but it doesn't seem because you are close to 100 and it looks that you should reach 100.

In case you haven't understand:

initial:
you +100
father -50 mother -50

after buying:
you +3
father -50 mother -50

1 to parents
you +1
father -49, mother -49
parents -98

your family -97 (you + parents) (that's what your family spent by buying the shirt.

so the last question: why not -100?
your family would have to spend 3 dollars
this is a trick to let you think that you should have -100 by using tricky wording or whatever the name

lawl guys. His problem isn't THAT. It's that he's buying a shirt for almost 100 dollars and then also mooching all of the money of his parents. Disgraceful I say!

You have it still.

....unless you used it to tip the stripper!
