hi my english is not great and I often use translator to translate the documentation of things. i am trying to setup slot reservation in my 6vs6 server for vips and admins and i would like it to be setup in this way.

when the server is full (12/12) if a VIP join with "connect ip" on console , he can kick one person from that 12 players and VIP will take the spot.

in other words the server will look like 13/12 while the VIP is connecting , then it will go to 12/12

my current config is this -
sm_reserve_type 1
sm_reserved_slots 1
sm_reserve_kicktype 0
sm_hide_slots 1

which seems to be working..? however when the server is not even full (like 7/12) some people join and they get kick due to slot reservation, i dont understand why that is the case? any help is greatly appreciated

As far as I know, these settings are not working in L4D 1/2.
Try use l4d_reservedslots

thanks for this, however it doesnt seem to be working. when server full, an admin or just vip join but it doesnt kick anyone and he is just in the spectator (so 13/12) as both teams are full. did i missed something?

my config with your plugin

l4d_reservedslots_adm "1"

l4d_reservedslots_flag "a"

l4d_reservedslots_hide "1"

with

sv_maxplayers 13

13 total, 12 available slots for normal players, 1 reserved slots for admin or vip.

Yea, you are doing right, what is the problem?

i think there is a problem in the plugin with how the flags for players are checked, non-vips were able to use this reserved slot as well vip players and so the server end up 13/12 . sorry if im misunderstand but this plugin is supposed to kick a non-vip player to make room for the vip?
