works like a charm, is it possible to make the plane wreck impenetrable once it has stopped sliding? I assume doing it earlier is impossible.. if it's possible at all.

Yeah by creating a large invisible box around the whole thing and making it solid, but it's more effort than I can be bothered to do.

I've figured out what I did wrong. I mistakenly assumed the l4d_plane_crash.cfg download link was the same as the sample configuration given in the code box. So I downloaded it and put it in the plugin's config folder (\left4dead\cfg\sourcemod\). Putting plugin configuration code in the \left4dead\cfg\sourcemod\ folder and putting optional downloaded plugin config in \addons\sourcemod\data\ got the plugin running.

Just a suggestion, but two different configuration files with two completely different purposes really ought to be named differently. I asked a friend of mine to get try this plugin on his server and he made the exact same mistake I did.

They're the same name for consistency. Reading the install instructions surely you would have figured it out. The cvars are automatically saved by the plugin, like many other plugins do.

Edit: and you never bothered to look inside the file to see it's different...

Plugin updated:

1.4 (30-Jun-2012)
- Added cvar "l4d_plane_crash_clear" to remove the plane crash after it stops moving.
- Command "sm_crash" changed to "sm_plane".
- Command "sm_crash_clear" changed to "sm_plane_clear".
- Command "sm_crash_time" changed to "sm_plane_time".
- Fixed the plane crash not being created when the server starts.
