#1

As many of you may have noted, there were many problems with yesterday's release. I have released AMX Mod X 0.20-TP3 to address some of these problems.

This release fixes a number of crash bugs and, most importantly, the .amxx file format was changed for hopefully the last time. This means you will need to recompile all .amxx plugins to the new .amxx file format. I realize this is an inconvenience, but it had to be done, and I made sure to do it as early as possible. Sorry! (Plugins in these packages are already compiled for you).

Update Guide: http://www.amxmodx.org/updateguide.htm

You can get the Metamod 1.17.2 binaries:

(Sorry - package download order came out weird. Note - no configs have changed. Yes, .amx plugins still load).

Changelog:
Code:
Changed .amxx plugin format - changed compression from LZO to GZ
-Note on the above - old .amxx files will not work, recompile with the new compiler.
-The compression will be 30-80% better, but that's not the reason for the switch (which was licensing issues)
Fixed include files to be more backwards compatible
Fixed bad compiling options in both AMD64 and Linux compiles (stdc++ dependencies)
-This also fixes a crash bug in the cstrike package and load errors
Fixed a very ubiquitous crash bug in MySQL
Fixed a crash bug in Core when resolving certain strings
   Increased compiler line buffer
Addendum: Redownload Linux Base package if you use Mysql and got them before this notice. The wrong mysql_amxx_i386.so was included.

Edit: whoo, got first reply

ok, now, what were the legal issue thingies with the old .amxx format? also, what about OLD .amx plugins (ones from .16), they worked with 0.20... so yeah, will they still work?

Edit2: meh, worded it wrong again, whats the licencing issue thingie with it, and why did you use it in the first place? or didnt you know?.... meh

The old .amxx format used LZO compression, the only library we could find for it was under the GPL.

While that's fine for AMX Mod X, I'm in the process of writing a new implementation of Small tools under the same license as Small (zlib). This package will contain:
AMX Assembler (by me, written)
AMX Disassembler (by Wraith, written)
New Small Compiler (by PM and I, not written yet)
Debugger (by me and maybe PM, not written yet)

Using the LZO library in these packages would violate the GPL since the zLib license is very different (if the LZO was zlib and the product GPL, it would be okay).

So what compression library did we decide to use that would be compatible with the zlib license? Why, www.zlib.org ;]

I was just wondering, if we ever make plugins in small-assembler code, can we release them under plugins and you will supply a web small-assembler compiler or will we stick to .amx/.amxx?
