Memory limits per OS edition can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx

Also, the "PC" you are wanting shouldn't be a PC, it should be a Server. Don't confuse the term PC with Server as they are completely different.

Also, I would always recommend a hardware level RAID setting for servers.
heh yes I don't think this "PC" will be that "Personal" since thousands people will connect to it LOL

RAID would be right, but I don't think that we are even getting through 30GB of storage, since I think that per HLDS, you use ~1GB... I don't think the storage is much important in a server running just HLDS...

btw, I haven't been aswered yet, an q6600 would be right for that server amounts? and what mother should I use, because as they said, the term "SLI" doesn't fit well in a server... I'm not having much money (actually, where I live, electronic is really expensive) I'm not able to buy a Xeon, I think a core 2 quad should be fine though.

In fact, what I need to know is:
A q6600 would be fine? What about a q6700? No difference? Should I buy a 45nm one?

What power supply should I use for this server?

What motherboard fits with this core 2 quad for a server?

Thanks to all who have answered. +karma btw to all

Now, a question that has been bugging me. Why are you building your own server? Why not purchase one from Dell, HP, Sun, or IBM?

That doesn't answer my question at all. Even if you purchase a server from a major vendor, you can still colo it as long as you get it to the datacenter.

At the least possible cost. I do suggest that he just buy a ready-to-deploy server.

That is actually false. Look at the link I posted about the memory limits for Windows. You can clearly see that there is 32bit versions that do not limit it at 4GB (2008 Enterprise/Datacenter both limit to 64GB). Unless you enable PAE mode for these, you will still be limited to 4GB (as that page states)

Wow. 64 bit work with 2 TB of ram. That is very crazy

Those specs wont be good enough, I would get the cheaper new i7 processor... and like at least 8 gigs of ram. Then get 2 8600 nvidias SLI bridge them... haha
