I got an email that I had a PM on the site. Logged in to check it out. Nothing new. Double checked, the email that had the PM looked like it was spam anyway, but up in the top right it still has the red "1 Private Message(s)"... kinda annoying

I got that too.
Just click on the box that selects all the messages, then go to:
Go: Mark as read.

this bug appears to be the result of a mass PM deletion because of a forum bot that sent a mass ad private message. The solution suggested above works however hopefully someone will fix it so people that don't check this thread won't be confused.

I don't think the problem is fixed yet, BAIL. Yesterday I had 1 PM Notification (and no new ones in my inbox) and today I had 3 in the notification but no actual new PM's.

I did the select all and mark as read thing, and it worked. So the problem is solved for me, but as GHW_Chronic mentioned, those who don't see this thread might still be freaking out. I almost PM'd ya BAIL, but decided to search about this first
