Reply With Quote #1

Hello, I am running AMX 1.8.2 and I want to switch to 1.8.3.
But I want to be safe when transferring all the configurations and files.

First off, when I download the base and cstrike.
Should I take base and merge it with cstrike, and replace all the files?`
I'm pretty sure what files I need to keep for my plugins to work.
But I don't want to replace anything that will cause wierd bugs.

What is the best way to migrate to .3?

Thank you.

Stop your server, and you can replace everything except /configs.

In /configs, you should update hamdata.ini. The others files, it should be fine to leave as it is. There are things which have been added here and there, but nothing required to run the server. Like for example, we added new cvars in amxx.cfg, updated the documentation and such. (something which will be noted with the changelog)

It's typically a standard upgrade. You technically don't need to recompile your plugins since it's backward compatible (if you have issues, and you should not happen, you can try to recompile them with the updated compiler).

So just to be clear, first I add the .3 base folders.
And then I drag and drop the .3 cstrike addons folder and merge it with the base folders.
This will replace many files, that are actually bigger size in base than in cstrike.

And then I can take my /config folder, and my plugins folder, and include folder and add them?
Also I want to keep my added modules and data lang files.

just select everything from amxmodx base EXCEPT configs folder, copy it to your addon, and merge and overwrite the files (nothing of yours should be changed here unless you messed with stock amxx plugin lang files or something)

then do the same with the cstrike package

now, from the configs folder, copy only hamdata and overwrite the one you have
this means all your old plugins will stay (you didn't delete anything, just overwritten the stock plugins and files)
and your plugins.ini , amxx.cfg and others will not be changed as you only modified hamdata from configs

Sry for this stupid question, but I can't find 1.8.3 on downloads page. Where could I get it if I ever wanted to upgrade from 1.8.2? Thx
EDIT: wow ok, it's a dev build. I guess I don't need to upgrade for now.
I'm letting this post because I've heard that ridicule never killed anyone... well I might delete it some day x)
