Hi,
I have searched the forums high and low for an answer to my server fault but can't find anything that relates to it
When I start my tf2 server, running linux, it gets to loading map and crashes - if I leave it long enough it crashes the entire system and the pc even turns off.
If I change the sourcemod folder name to sourcmod1 the server will start find and when I type Meta list into HLSW it comes back with:
17:156 Listing 2 plugins:
[01] <ERROR>
[02] <NOFILE>
As I said, I have looked high and low for an answer, and I'm using the latest releases of sourcemod and metamod.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not trying to run any addons... yet. I just downloaded sourcemod, metamod - put all the files where they are supposed to be and this is the problem I'm having.

thanks for the reply, hopefully we can sort it out.

Cheers.

Ok.... a simplified install guide is available here.

Do this way or not.

  1. Delete ...orangebox/tf/addons/metamod.vdf file and reboot server
  2. Download Metamod pack right OS, extract and upload server ...orangebox/tf/
  3. Download SourceMod pack right OS, extract and upload server ...orangebox/tf/

At this point you should have
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/metamod/
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/

Go ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/plugins/, move all plugins.smx in
.../plugins/disabled/New Folder -folder. (Create that folder)

  4. Make a VDF File, choose Team Fortress 2 upper drop box and click generate metamod.vdf
  5. Move metamod.vdf file in ...orangebox/tf/addons/, reboot server.
  6. Let server run couple minutes so SM update new files, then reboot server again.
  7. Add plugins back from disabled folder to plugins folder, reboot server

You will loose your server SM configurations with this way (How the hell I know is this your first time or not),
if you don't want ! Upgrading SourceMod
Do same way as above but:
  1. _
  2. _
  3. Download SourceMod pack right OS, extract and upload these files
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/bin
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/extensions
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/gamedata
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/translations
    ...orangebox/tf/addons/sourcemod/plugins
  4. _
  5. _
  6. _
  7. _

*edit
And do not touch gameinfo.txt file... ever.
If still not work, update your server, verify.

Thanks for the information.

I did what you have said, but as soon as I load a plugin - any of the original plugins mind you, nothing 'extra' the server hang when it goes to load the map and if I let it sit long enough the computer turns off

I went through each plugin individually and had the same result. I loaded into the folder all at once and had the same result.

Any other suggestions?

thanks again

I have updated the server, but still the same. Any loaded plugin crashes the entire thing.

Any suggestions, please?

I see a few people have read this thread, and thanks to Bacardi for some assistance, but I'm yet to fix the problem.

My latest attempt, I start the server with all the plugins moved to a temp folder. Server starts Ok and when meta list is typed I get the tf2 tools and sourcemod 1.4 shown up as running.

I move the plugins back to their original spot, and type sm load plugin - and any plugin mind you - and the server crashes.

Any suggestions, please?

when you say "crashes the entire thing" do you mean your actual linux box crashes and you have to restart the physical server? Or just SRCDS crashes?

It's been a while since I've messed with linux, but I know you have to chmod all of the folders correctly so that sourcemod can access them and do what it needs to do and have access to what it needs access to.

Maybe someone who is more familiar with linux setups can help

It crashes the game, and if left long enough (about 30 seconds) the actual computer turns off. Its not over heating or anything strange.

I just changed all the permissions so that sourcmod can access them, same thing

I used to run sourcmod on this box ages ago (ran perfectly) and had just developed an interest again to get back onto it.... and now with this issue I'm starting to lose interest real quick.

Thanks for your suggestion - I thought it would be the answer as that was one thing I had not checked. No luck tho.

Cheers.

Anyone else got some advice?

Any errors in SM logs ...addons/sourcemod/logs/ ??

Add this in ...cfg/autoxec.cfg
con_logfile "myfile.txt"

This write all console output messages in that file ...tf/myfile.txt
Maybe can see from there what errors it give.
