I have no idea why, but the only way I can get SourceMM to load, is to have my the GameBin line in my gameinfo.txt file to look like this:

GameBin                         |gameinfo_path|./addons/metamod/bin

Notice the '.' after '|gameinfo_path|'.

No other combination will work for me.
This is on a clean install of Gentoo Linux running the 2.6.15 kernel.

I'm not complaining. I'm just posting this for anyone else who may be frustrated trying to get this to work.
