Is it possible to do this, or is it handled client-side only?

Unfortunately it is not possible. This has been discussed a few times before.

I sort of think it's impossible with a direct command, but maybe there is some creative solution.

Maybe forcing the player to jump, I do not know. Cause you can close the MOTD also with space.

Nope. Jump and space are not the same thing. Sending a command does not make the client press the button to which the command was bound.

You'd think that maybe IN_CANCEL or something similar would work, but no. I thought about that cause if you grab IN_ATTACK, you can change it mid-command to IN_ATTACK2, and they will do it. I'll experiment with some of the game events and see if one might do the trick.

It's not possible so just don't try. The IN_* functions are serverside functions and will not affect the client GUI.

I think there's a plugin which does that as well, if you want to search for it.
