on www.planethalflife.com there is a news entry about valve wanting people to submit their hl mods to them so they can distribute them via steam?!...WOW

Anyone notice since CZ's release valve is starting to move full steam ahead? (No pun intended...but good one none-the-less)

Could someone move this?

LOL, yea i read about that on the hlcoders mailing list. Seems like a good idea but I think it could turn into a bad thing if people make great mods then just sorta quit on them. Then valve has this mod on their content delivery system that needs updates, and no one will update it.

We'd like to begin collecting builds from Mod teams interested in
distributing their Mod on Steam.

Players will be able to click on the icon for your Mod in the Games list
to install your Mod and then get all of the files they need. This means
they won't need to visit a web site to download the content and install
it manually. We will be able to release new versions of your Mod on
Steam so everyone will automatically get the updates.

Dedicated servers will also be able to get the content for your Mod.

We should be ready to start distributing Mods on Steam in the next few
weeks. In the meantime, if you'd like to have your team's Mod included,
please put together a complete build of what you'd like to release (.zip
or .exe) and send me an e-mail with a link to the file so I can download
it and get things ready on our end. Make sure the build you give us has
been tested with Steam.

Please also include contact information for a Mod team member for us to
communicate with if we have any questions/problems.

Let me know if you have any questions.

If it becomes dead, then they can easily remove it.

But I think I like the idea...maybe a "mod of the month" or something will be put into play.

And hopefully since valve is now moving forward pretty quickly, hl2 may not be as far behind as expected. (I'm predicting summer 2k4)...

Seriously, we all thought we were gonna wait even longer for CZ, although all CZ is...is just some stupid bots...and singleplayer missions...good for training the n00bs, but nothing more...

(In comparison, retail CS 1.5 was worth that!)

Hopefully, we will see hl2 come out in a suprize. We didn't expect CZ to come out when it did...and hopefully it will mean more content for us to mess with.

I honestly dont see CS2 being anything but the death of competitive CS... so I hope it takes forever.. however... HL2 in standalone mode I will surely get... but the requirements for a competitive version of that engine will be limited to those with all the toys... there'd be ZERO 1.5 servers if a cleaner prettier version was what folks wanted... CS lives because it's been good and free for so long... CS2 wont be...

Indeed I already mentioned this, it's not even Newsworth and PHL sucks. It will be news when Valve actually does it.
