No, but SMAC should already explain in the kick message that they have improperly set their cvar.

I set my cl_cmdrate to " 66", my ping went down to 5 and I got kicked a round later.

Here's the log entry for SMAC:
L 02/28/2012 - 08:019: [smac_cvars.smx] TnTSCS (ID: STEAM_0:0:266 | IP: 11.1.21.25) was kicked for returning a corrupted value on cl_cmdrate (cl_cmdrate), value set at " 66" (expected "66").

Here's the reason I got kicked in-game:
Disconnect: Your client has become corrupted. Please restart your game before reconnecting.

And, actually, a LOT of people have been kicked for being out of the acceptable range, so if there is a way to specify the kick message, that would be GREAT!

There should be a different message for a corrupt value and having it out-of-range. Corrupt implies that they added non-numerical values to a cvar such as cl_cmdrate, which is why that kick message was shown for you. If it's truely out-of-range, then this message should be shown.

Is this not the expected behaviour?

oh, I forgot I had a bad value as opposed to a value out of range... lemme retract my above post

Thanks for clarifying, GoD-Tony

...:: TnT Edit ::...

Yep, the message is perfectly clear when I set my cmdrate to 20

Disconnect: Your convar cl_cmdrate should be between 66 and 101.000000 but was set to 20. Please correct this before rejoining.

I shoulda tested before posting... what's the old saying, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Hi.
I try filtering out the ratehaxor idiots from some servers and get these values.
Anyone know why set some idiot users these values himself and what he want with these?

rate 1048576
cl_updaterate 101 alias cl_updaterate

Code:
L 02/28/2012 - 16:17:51: [smac_cvars.smx] LsT = King=IDiots (ID: STEAM_0:1:34399826 | IP: 84.2.188.174) was kicked for returning a corrupted value on cl_updaterate (cl_updaterate), value set at "101" alias cl_updaterate" (expected "10").
L 02/28/2012 - 19:10:47: [smac_cvars.smx] TroLOLol (ID: STEAM_0:1:42330252 | IP: 84.2.119.199) was kicked for returning with convar "rate" set to value "1048576" when it should be between "1000" and "100000.000000".
L 02/28/2012 - 19:24:01: [smac_cvars.smx] dessi <3 (ID: STEAM_0:1:27538576 | IP: 188.143.112.114) was kicked for returning with convar "rate" set to value "1048576" when it should be between "1000" and "100000.000000".

LoL... Bacardi, I know you say it doesn't matter as long as you set the min/max in the server config. All I know is that when I see a player that is lagging bad (skipping etc), I look at their rates with this ratechecker plugin, and see they have them set really low.

After they set them to the correct values, they stop lagging.

This is for CS:S where I notice it.

I do not care anymore with fake ping players. High ping kick plugins are working well. This is only a score board bug. (the min/max rate server side cvars are woking well too)

I am sure if you kick them they do not care with your rules and just leave and look for another server. There is no real reason to lost players for an useless bug/exploid.
