The main problem is that the people that have problems are now unable to earn money "automatically" on your visit to their servers. They can't "farm money", with your visit, unless you actively donate them money.

Since they can't farm money, they are of course whining, and to stay neutral, trying to attempt to "cover" their things with the legitimate MOTD use (e.g. claiming "it's good for plugins requiring them"), and thereby trying to hide their activities.

The majority (if not all) users I have seen whine about the MOTD issues so far, have not just been active, but been VERY active in the MOTD advertising/money farming related things.

It's fair to say this website is not the appropriate place to argue. Judging from the posts, the owners/moderators of the site, heavily, i mean my god heavily, support one side of the argument, to a point where good arguments are ignored and so many fallacies are made. Look at how weapon skins are used as red herrings and since when was claiming arguments for one side as "whining" appropriate in any way? Says a lot of the moderators in this discussion.

If you're not aware of the common fallacies I've mentioned, these are common standards taught in secondary schools in any country. Don't take these guys seriously and move on. No one even knows what Valve thinks about this, and arguing on a hobby website isn't going to make it any better.

Please remember the new MOTD method used which goes via the overlay browser resolves all the hidden ad and ear rape arguments.

It would be nice to see the MOTD URL usermsg patched to use the same method as the scoreboard button.

Doesn't work that way -- the server never sends a usermessage to the client in response to a scoreboard click; the client seems to pull the URL from the InfoPanel stringtable.
