I have a question. What would be the recommended paging file size for 3 GB of Ram on a 80 GB HD?

That depends mostly on your (type of) applications and how well your RAM is used. The ancient rule used to be the size of your RAM, but it's very well possible that you don't need one at all.

What operating system do you use?

I would choose to disable the page file and only enable it when programs start complaining (e.g. a very limited undo history in Photoshop). After all, a harddisk is a lot slower than RAM and if you don't need it you can use the space for something else.

I can't imagine that such a relatively old game, requiring 512 MB RAM, wouldn't run smoothly with 3GB (ignoring other factors). I can imagine it would pause more fequently with too little memory to pre-fetch parts of a huge map (I don't know UT3, but I assume that doesn't apply), but I doubt it would cause (permanent?) freezes. Then again, it's easy to find out if a page file affects the game...

no it doesn't permanently freeze, anyway i know this probably isn't the problem, but i wanted to know if anyone knew the basic settings giving my specs so i can rule it out.
