why cant L4D jack up the max players to 18 instead of 4

why keep it always at 4 no matter what wtf

can someone tell me Step by Step how to force an 8 player Survival and an 8 player Coop

i want a working method cause i tried everything and i cannot get them to force work

the people r still on infected and have to switch over which is highly unlikely all 8 people will be survivor by choice

Boomers, hunters, smokers and tanks (witches and normal infected don't count) combined with bots and humans all count towards the max players number.

This is what the core functionality of the left8dead plugin does:

(You need [L4D] Extra players plugin, which requires sourcemod)

Directly connect to your server E.g. connect <server ip>

Have 7 players join you through invites or direct connects

CONSOLE COMMANDS:
rcon_password <server rcon password>
rcon mp_gamemode "survival"
rcon changelevel l4d_sv_lighthouse
sm_l4dbot
sm_l4dbot
sm_l4dbot
sm_l4dbot


Have each spectator type 'jointeam 2' in console and they will take over the extra bots.

The Left8Dead plugin automates everything above plus handles some of the nuances introduced with extra players.

And you need to have
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0 in your server.cfg

People start to complain when they join modded servers because people like to have their servers connected to the lobby system.

When I join a lobby for REGULAR gameplay, I dont want to join your server with 8 players, I want to play a REGULAR game of L4D.

Now going off those lines, here is my tutorial on how to do 8 player survival.
Rather than paste it all, you can read it at this link. We have Lobby connect turned off on the L4DMods servers BECAUSE people will complain if they randomly connect to them.

That is exactly how you should run a modded server, Off-Lobby so people don't randomly show up at your crazy server.

I like to be able to join my servers via a lobby. Applying a sv_search_key means people cannot randomly hop into your server.

For anyone interested, I dumped the linux server objects to extract the function names.

server_i486.so.objdump.zip

It is a lot to sort through, and I am just getting started. Nothing obvious concerning mp_gamemode
