It will not work then. Your site must not be allowing the extensions.

If you cannot download a file directly such as in your case, a .bsp or .bsp.bz2, then you will need to either get the site to allow the extensions or find another webserver that does allow the extensions. There are some around that dont allow them.

You need to tell the webserver what MIME type they belong to: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/mod...e.html#addtype

Since it's running Apache, you should create a file named .htaccess with the following content:
Code:
AddType application/octet-stream .bz2
You can add all required extensions seperated by spaces on the same line.

With all due respect: nonsense.

Ah shit.
Apparently I don't have access to write that file...That's gay.
Anyway, I'll talk to my clan, they've already got fast download on some of their servers, I'll see if they will let me host the files there.

Thanks everyone.

You should really do some research before making silly statements. If you seriously believe that the sv_downloadurl "http://elec0.com/games/tf2" could ever work, then you have a lot to learn LoL.

There is no such game folder called tf2. It doesnt exist and hence will never be found.

Here is a great tutorial - http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/5240

Second thing you have to do is create a folder on your webspace named exactly like the mod is called in the SRCDS folder,
sv_downloadurl has to end in /tf for Team Fortress 2

Don't forget to set chmod to 755 for the folders and 644 for the files.

Obviously you have no knowledge of web servers. That's fine though, but no reason to mock other people.

I give in with you mate. It is very obvious and logical but you just dont get it or you are choosing not to so you can prolongue an argument because you have been shown to be incorrect with your advice which is no big deal either way.

Nobody is mocking anyone. It is always makes sense to give advice to people that is actually accurate though.

I have only been building and running Servers with a fast download redirect for over 5 years so i suppose i dont know that much then really LoL.

If you truly want to learn something, then simply read through my posts again.

Other than that, the discussion is over and believe whatever you want to believe. Makes no difference to me either way.

http://elec0.com/games/tf2/maps/surf_first.bsp.bz2 (and other variations of that url) gives me a 404 error, so it's not there

you don't need to have the bz2 in the tf2 server folder, just on the webserver

@Lob:
the download url does not have to end with tf / tf2, mine is http://ip/download and it works fine, bzip2ed maps are in http://ip/download/maps/...

Elec0's problem is that the files simply aren't there. ;)

LoL.

Read the full thread and you will see that Elec0's files are there but he has a problem with the file extensions not being allowed which is common on some webservers.

And for the record, it is better to have the bzip in the Server map folder aswell as the .bsp but just the bzip on the webserver. That doesnt mean that it wont work if the bzips are not in the Server folder.

No doubt there are other ways of doing it that also work for people.

The methods and advice i have posted are the best and tidiest and efficient way to set it up regardless of unimportant and pointless arguments.
