I am FREE from Windows FOREVER.

I have figured out a way to still play CS on linux, though I get about 5 fps. Probably can fix this once I fix the drivers for my video card.

Anyone else here run linux/any tips?

If you have an ATi card dont count on it.

ATi's Prop drivers for Linux BLOW. Same thing goes for the community made drivers.

I switched back to windows from Linux just because of that. Even when using Cedega, CS still couldnt get a constant FPS.

Open a console emulator and run 'glxgears', if the FPS of it is slow then you need the non-free Nvidia drivers. Ubunutu has them somewhere within the install/remove application you have to explicitly allow for non-free installations though.

(Non-free in this case means not open source, not price.)

While wine is easy to setup...if you end up having mucho problems you might want to consider "finding" a copy of Cedega. It can make installing and running other windows games pretty easy.

I also had some stupid issue where Steam lock files kept getting out of sync, so I could only play a game once without mucking around to get it to unlock. It was something with its personal registry being in use or some crap.

But the horrible ATi support made it not worth it.

If you have a nVidia video card, you can run CS, WOW etc. with almost the same FPS as with Windows. If you have an ATI card, kick yourself in the head for having one (I am doing it all the time).

Right now I am in the Ubuntu side of my computer, but if I need to play or work with Adobe Audition, I'll switch to the Windows side. Anyways, for setting up your video drivers I suggest using Envy, a program that installs them automatically.
