i have noticed that with this last version of the plugin the glitch regarding the spit happens less often.

maybe it just needs some clean up, take off the dirt from the gamedata and the plugin code, wash it with water and soap, etc.

Is it just me, or do the CVARS for the plugin refuse to work now?

I've tried setting them in campaign mode when things were a little too difficult (4 specials on realism expert was a bit rough) and it told me I couldn't change them in multiplayer mode.

It also gave me the exact same response in Single Player... O.o

It's just you ( I think ). Use in console sm_cvar ( CVAR YOU WANT TO MODIFY )

So it looks like - sm_cvar l4d_infectedbots_admins_only 1

there seems to be a problem with infectedbots_director spawn when it's set to 1, it doesn't spawn any bots.
