Updating cant be easier:
just overwrite everything EXCEPT the application/config folder
(or save the database.php on your pc and reimport it, when you have overwritten everything)

Just download the latest .zip file from github and then override your old files. Make sure to save your config/database.php and config/config.php if you changed it.

not joking but it takes at least 10 minutes for the "installation" page to load. any chance instructions can be posted here? i mean really, 10 mins is just insane is it not?

Really, from where are you trying to access the instructions ?
I just tried it, and it loaded in about a second.

I have also attached a pdf with the instructions.
If you can access the online installation guide, you should do it because I am not going to update the pdf guide

Can you make the login system configurable so it can be disabled? .htaccess works for my needs

I could do it, but if you disable the login system and enable a .htaccess, the API is also behind the .htaccess so it will be more difficult to access the API
