Reply With Quote #1

I know this is a very common question asked by many server owners, but i couldn't find an answer that satisfied me. The problem is that whenever i start my server, no matter how many ppl playing on it, the FPS jumps between the sys_ticrate i've entered and down to like 200 or 100. (e.g. sys_ticrate 1000 and FPS jumps between 999-200). What I want is stable 500 or stable 1000, doesn't matter..

I have tested:
FPS-fixer
srcdsfpsboost (even though it's not ment for hlds)
clock.avi
pingbooster 0,1,2,3
disabling all plug-ins on the server
HLServerRates recommendations
sys_ticrate - pretty much all numbers between 1 and 10'000...

And i just can't seem to get a better outcome.

The comp:
RAM: 1 GB
OS: Windows xp home edi 5.1
Processor: 2.2 GHz

Internet:
100 Mbit/s

I truly wanna get the server upp and running stable, so if there's any more information that might be to some kind of help, just ask. And if you've got any kind of advice, please show me.

/J

There is no such thing as stable FPS. FPS will always fluctuate and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Now, going from 1000 to 200 is odd.

I know "stable" might not be the right word. What I'm looking for is FPS pending with like 10-20 fps, and not as now with several hundreds.

The fps will always flucuate. It usually will do it by 1-300 on a 1000fps server. How many times did it hit 200? Maybe your server was loading a bunch of things at that time.

It actually does it all the time....

It's like: 995-997-569-987-409-989-995-997-438-879-295-994-998-386

No matter if the server's empty or if there's 8-9 ppl playing on it... And if i use 500 fps as max it jumps down to like 100...

Not really an option. Using a friends comp.

After the server has been up for an amount of hours the FPS drops down to around 50-100 and stays there, looks something like this:

50-64-108-49-58-96-32-53-64-37-85-95-28

No matter if the sys_ticrate is 10'000/1'000 and the scrdsfpsbooster is up and running

max flux of 30 ping is ok

clearly something is wrong with your server.

options:

new setup/installation.
test ping without any plugins.

finally 3GHz CPU is minimum for a quality server.
Even worse if your friend watches videos, browsing etc. on that weak computer.

The comp is used only as a server and no one's browsing, video watching what so ever on it.

It's not the ping that's bothering, but the server-FPS. The pings are relatively low (15-45) but ones the server has been up for a while the serverīs FPS drops a lot. The flux has been mostly fixed, but the drop still exists.

I've already tested it without any plugins activated. Re-installing might be what I need. I'll try that, thanks.

try giving server higher process priority in task manager and see what happens..

Or of course you could use ping booster. That will even lower your server pings by -20ms ping.

There is no reason to have more than 100 FPS on the server. I would say - even 50 FPS (but constant - not fluactuating) is enough (and it doesn't take so big power from Your CPU, so it doesn't cause ping fluctuations by it-self). 50-100 FPS is especially optimal if You are using bots on the server (they are getting also high amount of CPU power - so that changes CPU load - so that has the influence for droping FPS -> increases pings). Another thing for bots - more than 100 FPS may cause "slow motion" effect for bots, too.
