well ive never done it, but i assume its done by putting a redirect plugin in a server, and starting the server multiple times with different IPs....

the best way to get a popular server is to get a fun and unique mod, or a de_dust2 24/7 server ;)

Also if you have a website and fourms that doesnt hurt either as long as you advertise your server alot then people will come.

I was in the same boat as you when I first started my server. I always had ppl asking me for admin so I figured I could use it to get ppl in my server. I wrote a plugin that offers players adminship based on how much they play. In my server name I add "Get Adminship" to the end to let players know of the program.

You can set the amount of days in each admin giveaway cycle and at the end of the cycle the X players with the highest amount of play time get adminship until the next cycle ends. There is also a spectator kicker that will kick players that spectate for X rounds so you dont have to worry about ppl sitting in spec just to build up their time. The plugin also has the option to automatically update your MOTD with info including the new admins, cycle end date, and the minimum KDPM a player must have (using wildcards %admin1%, %enddate% etc). Kills and deaths when the player first connects during a cycle get written to the vault so only the kills and deaths achieved during a cycle count towards the KDPM ratio. I've been running it since november and it has brought in lots of players that come regularly.

There are cvars to set everything:
- days in each cycle (default 14)
- admin flags to give to winning players (default bcdefiju)
- the number of players to give adminship to at end of cycle (default 2)
- the minimum kills+deaths per minute the player must have to be considered for receiving adminship. (default 0.40)
- number of rounds before kicking spectators (default 5)
- option to enable the motd modifier

Everything is automated so you don't have to do anything. At the end of a cycle it will remove the players that previously had admin and add the new winning players. Shoot me a PM if you want to try it out. I have not made a release in the plugin section yet because I am always working on it.
