I'm a map maker and heard from a user that you can in theory use stripper source to protect your map. Would anyone have any info on how to do this?

Are you trying to make a map where if someone tries to use the map they would have issues or be unable to?
I know you can add entities, weapons, and etc in the map that stripper can remove that the person trying to run your map would have to remove in order for the map to be playable or load for players; however, anything more I would not know. This would be interesting to find out.

You can just delete all of the entities yourself (and add them back in with stripper), or make 2 versions of the map while preserving checksum. Entspy will do it.

The way it was described to me was there was an external program that you ran the map thru and it would create a manifest file or something that you needed to include on the server in order for the map to even work. Is that what bsp protect is?

use this:

delete all of the entities, either use stripper to restore them, or save a non-broken checksumd version on your server.

On one of my zombie maps...

I moved all entity scripting from hammer to vscripts. I didn't pak the vscripts into the bsp so they are server only.

ppl can take the map. But no entities work without the scripts present.

Protecting a map is futile. Once someone releases an unprotected version you will be seen by the community as the bad guy.

Not futile at all. Look at Voogru's dodgeball maps. Show me 1 of his maps that have been functionally decompiled/reversed.

99% of the dodgeball maps don't work without the custom entities provided by his dodgeball plugin - so why would anyone bother restoring the entities to the maps?
