Hi all,

We just wanted to relate to Richard & Greyscale, and to see if any of you have had this issue ....

We re-launched our Zombie server with Reloaded as our Mod of choice at the beginning of December, 2009.
Everything went swimmingly ... smoothly and with little or no problems.

Then, on Christmas Eve, Santa brought us an early present, as unwanted or un-needed as 8 pairs of jocks for a 7 day week!

We started getting reports from players in-game of the maps freezing - i.e. no player could move, call up console screen, nothing. They physically had to disconnect or reboot their computers to get back into Steam.
They couldn't even switch to their normal comp screens .. no keyboard generated command was possible.

Just this evening, I hopped into the server with about 8 people, and sure enough, the Issue raised its head again almost immediately with all the players - this time, our Server Admin, SirCole was monitoring the server remotely while I & the other players were in, and could see absolutely nothing strange occurring server-side.

We were running in pure mode .. meaning all add-ons were turned off, just Zombie: Reloaded was running, and the freeze issue was not local to any particular map .. it was random, across the map cycle.

It is a very confusing and perplexing issue, because we know it is nothing we're running that could possibly be causing this issue. We were wondering if anyone else had come across this issue or experienced it ... and we're happy to work with the Devs to sort it out.

For the moment, we have locked the server until this issue is ironed out, because to have players back into the server and to have this happen is a sure way of never being able to get a great player base established, and we'd rather it be locked until this is ironed out.

from that all I seem to be able to grasp is maybe the plugin or the map is spamming those commands to the clients and the clients are locking up due to it.

other than that our actual console seems to be fine and it shows no indication that anything is wrong

Something that might help you research the problem: cl_restrict_server_commands

But that cvar was removed in 2007 in a client update.

It's been 3 years since that was removed? Wow time flies.


That console dump explains why your players are crashing, but that definitely isn't our plugin causing it. A plugin is possibly getting caught in an infinite loop of forcing commands on players. If you know the plugins you have installed aren't doing this, then it's quite possible someone is running scripts on your server. Maybe monitor who's in the server at the time of the crash and keep an eye on those that you don't know or trust. If the same steamid (of someone you don't know) happens to be in 2 occurences of the bug.. then you have a suspect.

Unfortunately I don't know any other way to detect this. Maybe there are some remedies online you can find.


Just curious, are you running Eventscripts? If I had rcon to your server I could make a script to cause this bug easily with mattie eventscripts installed. I'm sure there are ways without ES, but if you have it installed, I suggest turning it off. I'm not sure if "pure mode" means you disabled other server plugins outside of SM.

I've seen maps with "servercommand" entities that run es commands. I don't like maps messing too much with servers...

I'm not sure what he meant by pure either, I think he was just trying to imply that nothing had changed and there is no hardcore addons on, at the moment the plugins loaded are as follows:

to be honest I'm really stumped, but on the note of a key player there is one player who it always seems to happen when they are in game, but she in no way has any access nor would she run any sort of scripts etc..

maybe its time to start another vanilla install and reset everything up :/ change some passwords etc

I posted over on the icannt forums. First try what I suggested before going too far. It will ensure (hopefully) that no client is hacking your server.

we currently have rcon disabled and only trusted admins with actual admin access.

all our problems went away for a while until two nights ago and its back with a vengeance.



However this time we found out somehting new. Previously we thought all of the

commands were from someone hacking the server trying to run scripts on players when in fact its the clients just trying to move!

Each time they press forward that gets printed in the console saying it stopped them from pressing forward.

It even stops them from disconnecting and exiting the game.

I realise this may not be a zombie issue at all but I know you guys know sourcemod and have an outside of the box mindset that may help me shed some light on this.

EDIT: it also may be worth noting previously we were on linux, we are currently on a windows box..

Further to Coles post above, I went in after players reported this, and this is the condump from console I got as well ...

When I went to disconnect through the Options menu, it was disallowed, and this is the command that came up:
FCVAR_SERVER_CAN_EXECUTE prevented server running command: disconnect


When I went to Quit the game session through Options menu, it was disallowed & this is what came up:
FCVAR_SERVER_CAN_EXECUTE prevented server running command: gameui_allowescape


When I went to Resume Game through the Options menu, it was disallowed & this is what came up:
FCVAR_SERVER_CAN_EXECUTE prevented server running command: gameui_hide

Cheers and hope this can be looked at and assisted with. It's absolutely not RCON .. it is disabled as Cole has mentioned and has been ever since Grey suggested we do this .... ironically, it worked for a while, but as Cole said also, it has now returned with a vengeance.

accordingly to sm wiki, randomcycle & mapchooser can't be run at one moment

and sm 1.3.0 requires mms 1.8.0
