Hello, this is an Off-Topic thread.

So I recently have bought a Gaming PC which only supports DVI and HDMI ports. My old PC supported VGA too. My monitor is VGA and I need to use it until I get a DVI/HDMI one but for now I need this one. So I thought of buying a converter DVI to VGA and it didn't work, the converter was 'DVI-I' and in my graphic card's box it says 'DVI-D' maybe that's the problem? The converter didn't fit. So now, should I go and ask for a DVI-D converter or HDMI (as the PC supports HDMI too) ?

Thanks.

The monitor's model: https://www.cnet.com/products/lg-l19...itor-19/specs/
The converter I bought: http://www.anhoch.com/product/41413/...-adapter-black

Right, so DVI-D is DVI Dual-Link which is a slightly different plug than DVI-I, that's why it didn't fit. Up to you whether to swap it for a DVI-D or HDMI plug to VGA, just personal preference.

Thanks for your reply.
So I told the seller I need a DVI-D converter and he said that they don't have it. I asked for a HDMI to VGA converter and he said it won't work and that he has tested that. What do I do now? My PC supports HDMI but he told me it won't work.

The converter I bought yesterday is DVI-E and not DVI-I, my mistake sorry.

The last D in DVI-D indicates that it carries a digital signal only (and HDMI only ever carries a digital signal). Your VGA monitor requires an analog video signal, which means that no passive converter will work with your setup.

A HDMI to VGA converter should work (and should be easier to find reliably than a DVI-I/DVI-A one), just make sure it is the correct direction (they're almost always uni-directional).

If that's the case, why do DVI to VGA converters exist?

What do I need to send so you can tell me whether that HDMI to VGA converter will work, as the seller said it won't. I don't wanna waste $10 on something that won't work. I already attached a link to the converter, do you need a picture of the HDMI port on my computer? Just a second I will attach some pictures.

EDIT:

Picture of the back of my PC:

And this is the converter:

Any idea whether it will work and why the seller said it won't? My monitor is 15 PIN VGA just as the converter. The converter says it's 19 PIN HDMI but I can't detect how many PINs my PC's HDMI port has.
