Someone please explain the type of 'cookie' or PHP script that Lotus Clan uses to produce something like this which automatically has your game name and Steam_ID already inputted when you visit the page?

IP matching

I'm working on a system now that uses steam's OpenID system to pull all of the info you need for a donations system. Users don't have to do anything but login to steam and its not possible to mix up or miss enter a steamID.

the website checks your IP and tries to match it to an IP in the user database it has

I do need to give credit where credit is due. Geit showed me steam's openID system and at first I was using the same IP/Lookup system that inflikted has. One problem you might run into with IP lookup is multiple users behind the same NAT router.

On one hand you have to login to steam but you get easy access to the correct user info. On the other hand you with the IP lookup you don't have to login to anything but have the potential for more headaches from uneducated users.
