It's probably possible with sockets but I really have no clue how to script such thing and I don't know if it's possible at all. Could anyone show me how to get a players friends amount or his profile picture?

What exactly are you trying to do?

There a a few ways to get some information from Steam profiles. One is to get the XML of their profile. The other is to use the API but that requires you having an account linked to an API key (which I would not recommend in general).
