Plugin does not work on linux CSS server. Could you compile the ..\extensions\info.ext.dll for linux?

DLL files don't work on Linux, you need SO files for that. He will do a Linux version as soon as he finds someone with the Linux SDK.

may I ask why exactly the extension is needed?
May be there are other way of doing the same without an extension?

He tried but he couldn't get it to work without an extension. I can't say which is better though, an SM plugin with an extension or just an MM:S plugin.

All the extension does is hook an engine call to pull some data that SM can't provide.
