The SDK is in steam "play games" in the tools section.

Thanks, it isn't there on my steam account. My account isn't yet tied to halflife 2 so I gues that's the reason. Strange that valve won't supply the sdk as a regular download on their website, after all all the development done in the community benefits them. Anyways I will sort it out on another steam account, thank you very much for the speedy reply.

You dont need the SDK if you dont own any source games.

I do need it if I want to write plugins for a source server, which was the idea. It's the principle of it, valve should be thankful people are writing plugins and mods for their software, that means more games sold for them. So I just find it odd that the don't offer the SDK as a download on their site. Thanks Pimp daddy!!

It's not illegal to link to it, but most likely it is illegal to distribute it like that. The SDK is only distributable to people who own HL2 according to the license.

Its most definitely illegal. I would think distributing the encrypted gcf is ok, but not the extracted files.

How do you test your plugins without source games?
