I ran AMX with linux in the past under CS 1.5 but I hear so many people talking about performance issue with Steam and linux now.. I am thinking of Doing a Linux Server with Steam MEtamodX and AmxX but how much of a performance hit are we talking?

just try

people after steam showup say that linux servers are not opitmized and are resource hogs now (i mean servers, not people )

1.6 in general requires more resources, I dont think the Linux problem is as big as it used to be. Initially my host complained alot, but now looking at the host usage history it's not nearly as bad. I have always had a Linux host, I dont have the same issues when full as we did in the past.

So, steam for linux is getting better than it use to be. because i heard nitemares about hlds steam under linux lol..

I never had a problem with CS 1.5 hlds under linux

The linux binaries did get an optimization update a few weeks back that masively improved things.

The problem with the linux binaries gets worse when over 26 players. It disproportionatly increases cpu use per player after that point. It is now possible to have 32 player linux servers but when steam/1.6 came out, you didnt see many at all due to the problems.

Apparantly, there is another linux optimized binary release coming soon.

Correct, there has been some minor improvement in the linux binaries, but there is still a lot of work to make them run as efficiently as they do on windows. I have multiple servers running both OS's.

As was mentioned, there are plans on continuing the optimizations needed for CS, but from what Alfred Reynolds said, they aren't currently a priority for them.
