I've been playing tf2 for a long time and I wanted to get into the scripting side of it. But I have honestly no idea where to start.

Is there a way I can test any plugin that I've written without having to rent a server? I apologize if that's a dumb question but please go easy on me, really new to all this stuff echatrandom. Would appreciate any help, thanks!

Don't rent a server to test plugins. Instead, create your own dedicated server using a spare desktop or laptop computer. You don't need anything fancy. A separate dedicated computer is better but if that is not possible you can install the dedicated server on your current desktop and only run it when you need to test. Running your own server gives you the control you need when testing plugins.

I've been hosting a TF2 dedicated server for about 10 years. The server is currently running just fine with 280 plugins on an old Dell laptop. It's not ideal but it works well enough to get players joining from around the world, and it's free.
