The modded version was just an example of how to use the extension. If anything I should update the post with a much simpler demo.

If you like using city names with Connect Announce, you could request that the author adds official support for it.

Your modded version works quite well. I use it for this:

Playerx has connected from {PLAYERREGION}, {PLAYERCOUNTRY}.

See also GeoLocation plugin.

Receiving updatable geographical data in real time will display more accurate information than any extensions/plugins with local database :o)

Just my opinion, but I think the advantage of increased accuracy isn't worth the downside of scraping a website (async, downtime, throttling, etc). Still a neat idea though, and the extra info it gives is nice.

Here's a modified version of the latest version of the Connect Announce plugin (1.4) (http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=77306). Besides integrating support for the GeoIPCity extension, i added a few other things which are mentioned in the release notes or in my posts in the Connect Announce thread:

cannounce1.4-modified version will show "unknown region" if region can't be found

can remove this word? look alike the plugin of sipster19
