I've pushed an update that improves wooden surface detection and removes some restrictions, see if it helps.

Try holding still while firing the hose. Plugin relies on you actually aiming at an entity for an extended period of time in order to extinguish it. Moving around erratically causes it to constantly reset your target.

If you don't like this you can set sm_extinguisher_use_time to 0 for instant extinguishing

What do you mean by invalid? Here's me extinguishing stuff with a use time of 2 seconds:

Set to 0, it can't extinguish fire, so it is invalid.
I have aimed at the bottom of the flame.
