Now that I want to use the newest version, do I need to recompile all of my plugins?

You should, especially if you're going from a really old version to brand new.

You don't need to recompile on updates. Only if the update provides a new feature or corrects an issue you were experiencing.

I based my answer on more than just this thread, hes got a couple more below where hes missing files and seems to have a big mess. If they work without compiling then I guess you don't. From reading the other posts if it were me I would start over from scratch.
