Thantik, you are misunderstanding the problem.

There is no real 64bit software for Windows yet - getting AMD64 for Windows is stupid. However, there is and has been support for Linux. Server providers would like to start using AMD64 for hosting because it's an excellent processor. There is a native 64bit port of HLDS for AMD64, and it runs automatically in hlds_run. Unless hlds_run is modified or you export LD_LIBRARY_PATH yourself, hlds_amd64 will always run on AMD64.

The first issue: metamod_i386.so won't work because hlds_amd64 will look for metamod_amd64. Next, even if you rename it, AFAIK, 32bit plugins will not work with a 64bit native application (this may not be true in real multilib systems). So in order for metamod or ANYTHING to work with 64bit HLDS, it must be compiled for 64bit natively.

So AMD64 server providers have two options:
Modify their startup procedures to run HLDS in 32bit mode, or
Not let their clients have plugins.

I have talked to people that have done the first thing and AMX is fairly buggy under it.

PS: None of us have an AMD64 for windows compiler, so there won't be an AMD64 AMX for windows, since it's pointless anyway (no windows 64 bit hlds binary)

Because this is for LINUX, some people apparently think Windows even supports AMD64 and that it's the only OS around...
