I came to a point in the development of a SourceMod where I needed to be able to 'edit' a map. I was wondering if there was any way at all to make a level editor that would make a playable .bsp file. I know that Portal 2 did something similar to this, but that tool is very limited. I wanted a way to physically alter bsp brushes in-game. I was thinking that you could use an entity that looks like a bsp brush and just feeds the vertex info into a UI-less version of Hammer to compile it. I know it's a stretch and you'd probably have to alter the engine a whole lot to do it, and I'm no expert either, but I don't think there's a way around having to do that for complicated geometry. Maybe you could find a different way for HL2 to read map data that still wields the same ability without saving bsp brushes directly. I might be trying to do something impossible, but I'm sure one of you guys out there will come up with something.
