I still have no idea what this particular cvar is actually about, the default value is 0, and why should I use the value 1. I'd be glad if someone explains more about it...

I think that's because you forced set survivor_set 2, so your survivor would only be visible in the [TAB] when you use L4D2 survivor (survivor_set 2).
On the other hand, if you remove survivor_set 2, then the game use default survivor_set 1 on L4D1 map, so your survivor would only visible in the [TAB] when you use L4D1 survivor (survivor_set 1).

If i understand corretly you want it to start from whatever survivor_set would of been default before character manager does stuff right?
