basically what the title says, allow the server to have a higher max player amount... can anyone do this??

How high do you want it?

You have to do this on the command line when starting the server. If you are renting the server, then you can only get what you pay for. There is no hackish way to increase the player limit.

If you want more slots you have to buy them.

If you own the server, and have command line access for starting your server, you can just add into the starting command line "+maxplayers 32" (less the quotes and replace 32 with how many players you want).

lol i WOULD buy a server but isnt it like a couple hundred bucks? lol, my server is 8 slot right now, changed from l4d2 to TF2 but in order to get more slots its so expensive =| anyways i thot there might have been a way to add more slots like in l4d2 guess not

Adding more slots than you're paying for is fraudulent and a big FU to the server provider. You're lucky they didn't catch you and just disable/delete/ban your account on the spot.

There are several game service providers that can hook you up for a very reasonable price. Google is your friend. If you pick the correct location you can rent a 24 player Linux server for under 20 bucks a month. One way or the other, if you're using someone's computing power, you have to pay.

actually the price system thing is weird, when i want to upgrade my server (add more slots) it says +$16 dollars, while im paying $15 right now (a month) i thot that meant an extra 16 dollars just for a 16 slot which would be $31 and I thot that was way expensive for 16 players... i then later figured out buy checking to buy a new 16 slot is $20... so confusing, anyways that shouldnt be too hard to pay for

$5 a month from you and 4 friends is enough to host a 24 slot server

If $5 a month is too much a month. Let's break that down then

$5 = 1 Big mac meal from McDonalds a MONTH

$5 = 5 Candy bars a MONTH

$5 = 2 gallons of gas a MONTH

Not sure if I understood the posts right, but, is it therefore possible by editing the command line to make the slots lets say for example 36 slots for TF2 just by editing the command line? And is it possible for other games as well like INS?

32 Players already makes tf2 lag like hell, and 32 players in tf2 doesn't work smoothly for 90% of players, why the hell would you want to go even higher than an already stupidly high number?
