how about a telnet "rcon" this should be easy to understand

but along with that a client side mod to connect to it, so that i can have a second console window for the server

this would make things just a little easier

So, just help me understand, you want to install a mod that is designed to replace rcon and its insecure ways but at the same time maintain those insecurities by using a protocol that can be sniffed or easily cracked?

If you had said SSH this might have been a remotely intelligent suggestion but you didn't so its not.

Are we talking about their time? No. Are they secure now because they used to be? No.

If anything, use ssh and sftp

yeah well ok you don't like telnet... i knew some would comment on that.... but i meant in general some sort of actual "remote console" where i get a console that shows exactly what the console is seeing

Putty is a good lightweight alternative to Telnet, and provides the SSH you SHOULD be using

They also have a SSH version of ftp.

Putty is an application capable of setting up telnet and ssh connections (among others). You're comparing apples to pears

This is getting really OT really fast

No they were not, it made it nice and easy for malicious users to sniff stuff out seeing as everyone was using the same crappy services
