New SMAC user here - I installed version 0.8.4 on a few TF2 servers, in mostly passive mode just to see how things work, and I'm noticing several people getting disconnected. This is the message in the log files:

"Your client has failed to reply to a query in time. Please reconnect or restart your game"

I can see that's part of the smac.phrases.txt file, but the only references on this forum are in a few threads from years ago. Many of the people disconnecting are server regulars, I can guarantee they are not hacking. What part of SMAC is this coming from, and is there a way to disable it?

Relevant info:
sourcemod 1.5.0-dev+3822
metamod 1.10.0-dev
SMAC 0.8.4 with only core + recommended modules

The smac_cvars module is responsible for those kicks.

Is this occurring to specific people only?

Actually there's more than I thought, now that I am looking at multiple logs. Over the last couple days I've got about 30 individual steamIDs that were dropped because of it...most of the hits are single instances though.

I wouldn't worry about it unless multiple kicks occur within minutes of each other.

SMAC gives them a total of 90 seconds to reply to one of the 5 query attempts. Any client failing to reply for this long is likely experiencing severe network congestion or packet loss.

The kicks could actually also depend on Steam servers going down and because of that Steam isn't giving us our steamids which trigger smac to kick.

This isn't related to the SMAC_FailedToReply kicks. I believe you're referring to smac_validate_auth (which is defaulted to off).
